Sri Lanka’s popular traditional gemstone burning has gained great fame from an elderly man named Simon Aiya who lives in Ratnapura. According to local traditions, using a coconut shell stove, these gemstones are burnt in a few hours by blowing air into it. In some cases, depending on some stones, the result may be right or wrong. Before placing gems in the coconut shell charcoal stove, the gems are covered with chalk and kept in low heat for about an hour, after which the stove is blown with a pipe so that the heat is high.
